פרופ' מיכל גל מתמחה באסתטיקה ופילוסופיה של האמנות והעיצוב, תפיסה, תרבות חזותית, אסתטיציזם, פורמליזם ומודרניזם ותורות מטפורה. פרופ' גל עמדה בראש היחידה להיסטוריה ופילוסופיה של האמנות, העיצוב והטכנולוגיה (לשעבר היחידה ללימודי תרבות) ובראש ועדת המחקר של התואר השני. היא חברה במועצת הנאמנים וראש ועדת המינויים של האגודה האמריקאית לאסתטיקה.
